Yes, it's that time of year again. Elections are right colse to the projection and political campaigning is in its final and arduous stages. Those of us with TiVo or any other type of Dvr are thrilled to be able to fast transmit through all of the assorted political commercials that run rampant. Of course, don't forget the phone calls and my personal favorite: junk mail.
Actually, it was a piece of junk mail that prompted me to write this. It was labelled "5 Things You May Not Know About Dick Blumenthal". I have to admit, at first, I view it was his campaign that was pointing out the good things that he's done. How naive of me to believe that I verily got a positive piece of campaign mail. It was his opponent bashing him (for those of you who don't know, Dick Blumenthal is running for a Connecticut seat in the U.S. Senate).

The flyer is on heavy weight, slippery paper. It verily has a decent photo of Mr. Blumenthal smiling and cropped to be placed in front of a photo of the capital. Flip it over and one gets to read about these 5 things. They're anyone but flattering, but I won't get into the details. If you look in the lower corner, you can see the sources where the information was found. There are 4 sources quotes, 3 of them are from 20 or more years ago.

These mudslinging campaigns remind me of young children on the playground who try to get the teachers' concentration off of them by pointing out the flaws of others. I hope more citizen than just me are ignoring this verbal vomit. I verily do not care about a political candidate's view of their opponent. If someone wants to run for communal office, they just need to tell me what they stand for and what they hope to accomplish. I'll make the decision on who fits my view as the best candidate on my own. I am not going to get my feathers in a ruffle over things that happened when I was in elementary and middle school. We all have done things that we wish we could change, I include myself in that.
Nowhere on this flyer does it say what Mr. Blumenthal's opponent stands for or is planning on supporting or pushing or anyone else. That's what I want to know. That's all I care to know. The childish squabbling does itsybitsy to instill belief in me with regards to our government officials, I see this for what it is. Junk like this makes me wish my mailbox had a "block" button. The good news is, my cats love to watch my paper shredder, so this flyer gets to entertain them for 3 seconds.
